Delete your data
Last updated
Silo has no accounts, so there is no account to delete. Your data is in four places. Each is deleted a different way.
1. Your vault on your phone
Your photos, videos, files and keys are stored on your phone, and in your own cloud storage only if you turned on backup (see 2).
- Uninstall the app. Deleting Silo from your phone removes every vault and its keys from that phone. This cannot be undone.
- Delete one vault in the app. Where Settings offers “Delete this vault”, it removes that vault and everything in it from the phone. This also cannot be undone.
Before you delete, export anything you want to keep. Without the vault and your recovery phrase, nothing can be recovered from the phone.
2. Your cloud backup
If you turned on backup, an encrypted copy of your vault is stored in your own cloud storage. We cannot see it or delete it for you. Deleting the app does not delete it.
- Android (Google Drive): open Google Drive in the app or on drive.google.com, find the folder named “Silo backup”, and delete it. Then empty the Drive bin to remove it for good.
- iOS (iCloud): once iOS backup is available, this page will give the exact steps. In short, you delete Silo’s data from your iCloud storage settings.
3. Diagnostic and purchase records
We hold two kinds of records, both under a random app user ID and with no name or email attached.
- Diagnostics: device model, system and app version, performance numbers and error reports, if you agreed to share them. To stop sending data, turn the diagnostics switch off in Settings. To have past data deleted, email us.
- Purchase records: kept by RevenueCat under the random ID, and by the store. To have the RevenueCat record deleted, email us.
Email privacy@silo-private-vault.fyi with “Delete my data” in the subject. Because we hold nothing that identifies you, we need either your random app user ID, or the store’s receipt or order number for your purchase, to find your records. We may ask you to show it is yours. [TODO: confirm where in the app the random ID can be found, or remove this sentence.]
Records the stores keep about your purchases, including payment details, are governed by Apple and Google. Ask them directly to delete or export those.
Some purchase records may have to be kept for a period for tax, accounting or legal reasons. If so, we tell you what we keep and why. See our Privacy policy.
4. Subscriptions
Deleting the app or your data does not cancel a subscription. To stop being charged, cancel it in your store account settings: the App Store subscriptions page on iPhone, or Subscriptions in Google Play on Android. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
